A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Professor Little to discuss the new ‘Intro to Winter Activities’ course that will be running in the coming semester (Starting January 2020). The course was created to replace the regularly run ski/snowboarding course, commonly referred to as ‘Snow School’. Snow School previously consisted of a 3 day ski and snowboarding trip to Sue St. Marie at the Searchmont Resort. Unfortunately Snow School can not be offered again this coming January as a result of the contract with Searchmont expiring. Luckily Professor Little and fellow professor S. Nault have create a brand new activity course for Human Kinetics students to participate in.

The course is going to be run by Prof. Little twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays, and will encompass a broad range of fun activities and learning opportunities. As a new course, the curriculum is still being solidified, but Prof. Little hopes to run an array of outdoor winter activities including but not limited to; a polar bear dip in Ramsey Lake, snowshoeing/cross country skiing, winter camping techniques, and ice fishing. There will also be classroom sessions designed to further enhance students knowledge on outdoor activities, and will cover topics such as winter safety. The goal is to introduce students to the vast number of winter activities that Northern Ontario, and specifically Sudbury, have to offer. As far as expectations for the course, Prof. Little hopes that there will be a good deal of student interest, as well as community outreach and involvement to be able to experience all that the winter season has to offer. We look forward to meeting with Prof. Little again during the coming semester to be updated on the success of the course.
